There have been many times when I have asked a technician how long they have spent working on a specific job and been given an answer like "err um about 3 hours"
We know that it was his first job and its now 3:30pm!
This is where all your labour is being lost! Guessing how long a job has taken is always going to be less than the actual time because the Technician probably thinks they are faster than they actually are.
You most likely purchase repair times data from somewhere, the idea is that most jobs have a fixed time that is needed to carry out the procedure, these times are oftern un-achievable by the average independent garage due to the huge variety of vehicles you will work on in addition the times are recorded on the second or third attempt so no seized bolts or time working out how to access hard to reach nuts.
Main dealers work to repair times however the majority of the vehicles they repair are under three years old and at £90 plus per hour they can afford to loose the odd hour here and there.
Technicians don't clock off a job, they clock onto the next action so there is never an un-explained gap during the days activities.
Some jobs require an extra pair of hands, it might be because some heavy lifting is needed or you might be doubling up to get a service finished on time. TechTime allows unlimitred number of techs to clock on to the same job simultaneously.
Keep track of how many days off your techs have had and which days you paid them for. Run reports for sickness and holidays.
TechTime uses a web browser for recording time and attendance, the office staff use an admin screen to view the clockings and times spent on jobs while the technicians you a web based clock. The clock has been specially designed to make its use fast and simple only offering the techs large easily clicked buttons that can be used whilst still wearing gloves.
Several helper functions are built on for example if a technician is working on a job and break time or lunch time arrives the system will offer up the last job for quick selection upon their return. Job numbers entered by the techs are validated to see if they are within the allowed range and to make sure that the job has not been marked as completed.
If a tech forgets to clock out after shift they will be alerted the next time they clock in and their last shift will be automatically ended at the day end time.
Stop paying overtime for techs that hang around being unproductive after teh end of the day. TechTime allows for shift patterns that can allow for a maximum number of mins to pay up to after the day end to allow for cleaning up or washing hands etc any time later than this will be adjusted out for the attendance reports, this is overridden if the tech is working late and is clocked onto a valid job. (original clocking times are always recorded and displayed along with the corrected times in the reports)
